After graduate training in virology, Dr. Kowalik worked as a fellow studying human cytomegalovirus (CMV). He then joined the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he is in the Department of Microbiology and Physiological Systems. At the University of Massachusetts Medical School, his laboratory continues research on CMV-host interactions. Most recently, he has developed a collaborative program of viral genomics and population genetics to better understand how viruses evolve and adapt to new environments, influences disease, and respond to antiviral therapies and vaccine candidates.
